Community Engagement
- Partnership with Aware Self-defense Baton Rouge, a nonprofit owned by Audra Knieper. Audra has over 15 years of experience in various martial arts, such as Krav Maga, Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Japanese Jiu Jitsu. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is Trauma Certified. She has been certified as an instructor with BR Krav Maga and with 500 Rising. www.awareselfdefensebr.com
- BRKM hosted a women’s only seminar with Aware Self-defense Baton Rouge on May 25, 2024. We had a keynote speaker, who is a survivor of a violent attack, give her story. Then trained trauma certified instructors taught practical life-saving self-defense techniques.
- Partnership with local schools to instruct youth in self-defense and situational awareness. (i.e. Thrive Academy and St. Amant High School)
- Provide Self-defense Seminars to schools, domestic abuse survivors, sororities, etc.
- Provide training for security teams for churches, businesses, etc.
I’m completely new to this and honestly it took me a lot of time to build the confidence to get a membership. All I can say is Jeff was with me the entire way though this process. He walked me through what I needed to to do prepare and really made me feel comfortable with my lack of skills. I’m so glad I joined! I don’t think theres anything else I’ve ever been this excited to be a part of.
